Aymeric Laporte: Star set to quit Man City after new Barcelona development - sources

Aymeric Laporte is wanted by several clubs in the Premier League and abroad as he prepares to leave Man City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed on Friday (9 June) that City are planning to accept offers for the 29-year-old this summer if they succeed in bringing in a top-class defender.

However, a well-placed source has revealed Laporte is unlikely to join long-time admirers Barcelona due to the financial restrictions in place at the Nou Camp.

It is believed the Spain international will weigh up all options – but a parting of ways is considered the most likely outcome.

Laporte is keen to play more regular first-team football after a season on the fringes at the Etihad Stadium.

He has made 24 appearances across all competitions this term – but has been a part of the starting lineup in just 20 of those outings.

The defender, who earns a reported wage of £120,000-a-week, has won five Premier League titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups during his time at the club.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Laporte, who has two years remaining on his Man City contract.

Pep Guardiola and his recruitment staff are keen to add another centre-back to their ranks despite already boasting some of the best options in Europe.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (9 June) that Man City have held initial talks with RB Leipzig over the signing of defender Josko Gvardiol.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Gvardiol is the “top target” for the Premier League champions heading into the summer transfer window.
