Kieran Maguire: Chelsea on brink of 'spectacular' £40m deal
It is ‘spectacular’ that Chelsea could strike a £40million per season sponsorship deal without Champions League football to offer.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chelsea’s front-of-shirt deal.
Football Insider reported earlier this month (16 June) that Chelsea are in advanced talks with online casino company Stake over a £40million per season sponsorship deal.
The Blues have been searching for a new shirt sponsor, with their £40million per year deal with Three expiring this summer.
Allianz held talks with the Londoners over a potential deal but were only willing to pay around £20million per season, whereas Stake were willing to meet Chelsea’s asking price of £40million to equal the value of their previous Three agreement.
Maguire believes it is ‘spectacular’ that Chelsea could strike a deal of that value considering Stake’s current deal with Premier League rivals Everton.

“If it’s a one-year deal, I think it’s quite spectacular from Chelsea’s point of view,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Ultimately, sponsors are looking for eyeballs, and they’re looking for eyeballs both from the Premier League and European football.
“So this would be an excellent deal from Chelsea’s perspective.
“Stake are probably paying around £10-12 million for Everton.
“So to get three or four times the price for broadly the same amount of exposure in the Premier League, would be an extremely good deal from Chelsea’s point of view.“
