Sources: Big update on Liverpool signing Caicedo after approach made

Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo after Liverpool cooled their interest in the Brighton midfielder, sources have told Football Insider.

Having enjoyed a breakout season on the south coast, the Ecuadorian is expected to be the subject of a heated transfer tussle this summer.

However, the Reds are unlikely now to join the battle for his signature, with their attention instead focused on his Brighton teammate Alexis Mac Allister.

Jurgen Klopp is keen for Liverpool to conclude their business as early as possible in the coming window so that he has a full squad together for the crucial pre-season period.

With that in mind, the Reds have moved early to lay the foundations for their planned business by sounding out the representatives of key targets such as Mac Allister and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

But Football Insider understands there has been no such contact with Caicedo’s camp since the turn of the year, a fact that suggests he is unlikely to be pursued.

That is good news for Arsenal, who are expected to go back in for the 21-year-old after failing to land him in public fashion in January.

The Gunners lodged several bids for Caicedo across the mid-season window despite Brighton owner Tony Bloom’s insistence that he was not for sale at any price.

The midfielder was banished from first-team training throughout the saga but returned once January had passed before surprisingly signing a new contract in March.

That fresh deal is unlikely to put Mikel Arteta’s men off, however, as they look to build on a season that could still end in them dethroning Manchester City as Premier League champions.

Chelsea are also thought to still be keen on signing Ecuador international, though their initial summer priority will be to slim down a bloated squad.
