Ibrox Exclusive: Player with 151 PL appearances reveals Rangers offered to re-sign him

EXCLUSIVE

Alan Hutton has revealed he could have re-signed for Rangers and his love for the club means he would never have played for any other Scottish club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 34-year-old explained how the offer of a sensational return to Ibrox was on the cards “a few years ago” but a deal could not be agreed.

As reported by Football Insider, Rangers did weigh up the chance of making a new move for Hutton in the summer but were able to hold on to senior right-back James Tavernier.

Hutton is now contemplating retirement after being released by Aston Villa during the summer and snubbing various offers from English Championship clubs.

Asked about interest from his native Scotland, he told Football Insider: “Not so much but I find it tough to go back to Scotland. Rangers is my team, I came through at Rangers and I just think to go anywhere else would be really difficult for me and I don’t think I would want to.

“Maybe a few years ago there was a chance at Rangers but again it’s probably a position that they’re not in a hurry to fill.”

Rangers’ longstanding right-back is Tavernier, ironically the subject of interest during the summer from Villa amid Hutton’s own release.

Asked if he could rival the 27-year-old for a place in Steven Gerrard’s side, Hutton laughed: “Exactly. I don’t see why not, I don’t see why not.”

Hutton started his career at Rangers before moving to England to join Tottenham for £9million in 2008 and he was a big fans’ favourite during his time at Ibrox.

He made 151 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs and Villa, as well as 112 in the Championship, 88 during his spell at Rangers in addition to shorter spells in Spain for Mallorca, at Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set for a sensational £8million windfall.
