Kris Boyd cited as Rangers urged to sign proven striker in January - expert
Signing Lawrence Shankland is a “no brainer” for Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said the Hearts striker reminds him of Kris Boyd back when he joined Ibrox from Kilmarnock.
Shankland has two years remaining on his contract with the Edinburgh club and has been an important member of the squad.
Michael Beale has already added numerous reinforcements in attacking areas and spent big money on the new arrivals that have failed to impress the supporters.
Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo arrived in Glasgow this summer costing around £14million in total but have yet to justify their hefty price tags.
When asked if Shankland would be a better option for the Gers up front, Hutton told Football Insider: “Absolutely.

“Look at his form from last year, look at what he has done this season.
“He is a leader in that changing room, he scores goals whether that be in European competitions or the league.
“He reminds me of when Rangers bought Kris Boyd. He came from Kilmarnock, scored a load of goals for Rangers and I think Lawrence Shankland could be the same.
“He has proved to everybody he can do it at that level so it is kind of a no-brainer. You look at some of the money that has been spent on attacking talent that, as of now, still need a lot of work.“
Shankland has already scored five goals in nine appearances for the Jam Tarts so far this season.
Last term, the striker netted 28 goals in 47 appearances for the Edinburgh club.
