Pundit verdict on Newcastle United concern - 'it's through the roof, wow'

Alan Hutton has insisted Newcastle United’s “worries” after a “slow” start to the season will be banished by their 8-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday (24 September)

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed “confidence levels will be through the roof” after the demolition of the Blades.

Eight different goalscorers were on the scoresheet at Bramall Lane, including Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson.

Newcastle are now eighth in the Premier League table after losing three of their opening four top-flight games.

Eddie Howe’s side will play in four different competitions this season and drew 0-0 in their first Champions League group match against AC Milan last week.

Newcastle face three games against Man City, Burnley and Paris Saint-Germain in the next seven days.

When asked if the big win could help build momentum ahead of the PSG clash, Hutton told Football Insider: “It will definitely help.

“To go away from home and win 8-0, wow.

“Those are the kind of results that usually see a manager lose his job, and I’m wondering if that’s the road that Sheffield United might go down.

“But in terms of Newcastle, the confidence levels now will be through the roof.

“They had been a little bit up and down in terms of results, but that will give them a big boost.

“They’ve got Man City in the cup and then Burnley, where they’ll be looking for another three points.

“I think they were just a slow burner at the start of the season. There’s definitely nothing to worry about for Newcastle fans.”
