Hutton: Tavernier can transform Rangers flop into a machine

Cyriel Dessers is under big pressure to keep scoring goals for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton is hopeful that Dessers has now had enough time to bed into the side and start finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

As seen in footage shared by the SPFL (25 September), the 28-year-old netted his first league goal for the Light Blues after a difficult start to life in Glasgow.

Although the striker seemed to know very little about the ball from Rabbi Matondo coming his way, he was quick to celebrate.

Dessers has made 11 appearances for Michael Beale’s side across all competitions this term and has now netted three goals and offered up three assists in those outings.

When asked if Dessers will be capable of stepping up and scoring important goals for the club, Hutton told Football Insider:I hope so.

That is what he was brought in to do, he has got that European experience and he looks like a number nine to me.

You look at his stature, what he brings to the team, he is able to hold up the ball.

It has not started well for him but you just hope with that bedding in time, getting to know the players, the crosses that are going to come in from the likes of [Borna] Barisic and [James] Tavernier, he is going to be able to get on the end of them.

We know when you play as a number nine with Rangers you know that the pressure is on to score the goals so he will want to keep that going.
