Sources: Rangers star Steven Davis set to be offered new deal after unexpected twist
Rangers legend Steven Davis is “very likely” to be offered a new contract at Ibrox, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the 38-year-old could become a player-coach for the Glasgow giants – similar to the role taken by Jermaine Defoe during his spell at the club.
Davis has been working towards completing his coaching badges since he was ruled out for the season through injury in December 2022.
The record appearance holder for Northern Ireland is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of this season.
He has spoken of his desire to play football for Rangers and his country again despite suffering a double cruciate ligament tear at his age.
And Davis, who has racked up 360 appearances for the Gers across two spells at the club, looks set to get his wish with a role in Michael Beale’s backroom staff.

Beale, who was himself a former coach at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard, has insisted he wants to bring more Rangers-affiliated coaches into his setup.
There are few players more experienced than Davis – who has played 128 senior internationals and was a key player for Southampton and Aston Villa – making over 300 Premier League appearances.
Prior to his injury, the midfielder made 16 appearances across all competitions – nine of which came from the start.
He has won four league titles and four domestic cups during his time at Ibrox.
Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack are midfield stars also out of contract at the end of this season.
Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos are among the other Ibrox stars set to leave the club for free in May.
