Sources: Rangers star Allan McGregor almost certain to leave as replacement lined up
Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is almost certain to end his playing career at the club at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.
The Ibrox giants are assessing the market for a new number one capable of slotting straight into the starting XI.
McGregor, 41, is out of contract in the summer and, barring an unexpected U-turn, will not sign an extension to his deal.
However, the veteran keeper could agree a coaching role at the end of the season at a club where he has legendary status on the back of two hugely successful spells.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday that McGregor’s fellow Hall of Famer Steven Davis, 38, could become a player-coach next term for the Glasgow giants – similar to the role taken by Jermaine Defoe during his spell at the club.
McGregor’s experience and authority are highly valued by Rangers, where he has shared the number one short with Jon McLaughlin this season.

McGregor has had more game time that his younger teammate, with his 25 appearances spread across 2280 minutes of action.
He made his 475th appearance for the Glasgow giants on Saturday in the 3-0 Scottish Premiership win over Livingston, which was the team’s sixth league win on the trot.
McGregor signed a Rangers contract extension last June, when many had expected him to leave, in news first revealed by Football Insider.
There is not expected to be a repeat of that, and the club are scouring the market for potential replacements.
Among the targets are Man United loanee Jack Butland and Livingston’s Shamal George, who made his name at Liverpool.
Multiple Rangers stars are out of contract at the end of the season including Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack as well as Davis.
