Sources: Arsenal now want to beat Tottenham to Marco Asensio as move made
Arsenal, Man United and Tottenham are all battling for Marco Asensio’s signature in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Real Madrid star, 27, will be available for free in the summer when his contract expires, provided he doesn’t sign an extension.
Football Insider has learned that the Gunners will be competing with Spurs and United for Asensio and they have all been in contact with intermediaries about a potential deal.
The winger has made 17 La Liga appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side so far this season and has scored four goals and provided three assists during those outings.
The Spaniard has been used predominantly from the bench this season and has been in the starting lineup for just six of his 17 league appearances.
Asensio was on the bench for Madrid’s 5-2 demolition of Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday (21 February) and was subbed on for the final few minutes of the match.

Since his arrival at the Bernabeu back in 2016, the Spain international has made 264 appearances across all competitions, netting 55 goals and providing 29 assists in that time.
Arsenal’s current right wing options include Bukayo Saka, who has become a standout player and fan favourite under Mikel Arteta, and Reiss Nelson, who had spent a season on loan at Feyenoord and has struggled to oust Saka from the side.
Tottenham are heavily stacked in forward areas, with Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison all available to Antonio Conte.
Man United have recently added big-money signing Antony to their forward ranks who has been Erik ten Hag’s go-to on the right wing when fit.
The Gunners have already been burned by Premier League rivals Chelsea hijacking a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk in the summer and will be hoping to avoid a repeat with another top flight team in the summer.
