Sources: Celtic set to hand Brendan Rodgers 'big' summer kitty as deal all but done

Brendan Rodgers is set to return as Celtic manager after being offered a very lucrative contract by the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks between the northern Irishman, 50, and the treble winners are now at an advanced stage.

Negotiations are taking place on Wednesday over the composition of Rodgers’ backroom staff as his appointment edges closer.

Football Insider understands that the Northern Irishman is set to be handed a “big” budget for the summer window if the final details of his appointment can be agreed in the coming hours.

It means the Hoops are approaching the end of their hunt for Ange Postecoglou’s successor.

The Australian departed Parkhead to take over as manager of Tottenham in an end to their search for Antonio Conte’s permanent replacement.

On 12 June, Football Insider revealed that the Hoops had made contact with Rodgers as a candidate for the managerial role.

The Scottish giants went on to win the league that season, and in the 2019-20 season, under the care of Neil Lennon but the 2020-21 season proved to be disastrous for the Hoops.

An uninspiring campaign saw Celtic finish second in the league, giving Rangers their first Scottish Premiership title in ten years, and missing out on securing their tenth league title in a row.
