Sources: Rangers close to agreeing Borna Barisic deal after new talks

Rangers star Borna Barisic is closing in on agreeing a new contract with the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Croatia international has one year left on his current deal and arrived at the club when Michael Beale was assistant manager.

Talks have been underway over an extension and discussions have been positive with both parties increasingly hopeful of striking an agreement.

Rangers will add a number of more new faces this summer but are keen to keep both their left-backs in place so they can focus on other key areas in need to reinforcements.

Barisic, 30, is wanted by multiple clubs around Europe as he enters the last year of his deal but is very happy at Rangers and a new deal seems suitable for all parties.

The Govan side have already handed a one year extension to midfielder Ryan Jack as Beale reshapes his squad in a drive to narrow the gap on Celtic.

The Parkhead outfit have a big budget to spend this summer and are on the back of a treble-winning season causing Rangers to act in this window with up to 10 players expected to arrive in total.

Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Sam Lammers have all put pen to paper and joined the rebuild at the Gers so far with talks ongoing over deals for Jose Cifuentes at LAFC and Cyriel Dessers at Cremonese.

Barisic played 46 times for Rangers last season scoring 2 goals and grabbing 13 assists, the second highest number of assists in the squad. He has also been capped 31 times by Croatia at senior level.

The Croatia international is set to battle Ridvan Yilmaz for the starting jersey as Rangers’ first choice left-back next season with both players expected to stay at the club.
