Sources: Newcastle United make approach to sign Dominik Szoboszlai - release clause revealed
Newcastle have made an approach to sign RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai, sources have told Football insider.
The Hungarian attacking midfielder, 22, has a £60million release clause that has caught the eye of multiple clubs across Europe.
Newcastle are understood to have sounded out Leipzig over the possibility of a deal for Szoboszlai, who has also been on Chelsea’s radar but is not currently a priority for them.
Newcastle first made contact at the end of May when they were building their plans and finding out the conditions of a deal.
It comes as Tottenham are closing in on long-term Newcastle target James Maddison with personal terms agreed and talks advancing with Leicester City over a deal.
Eddie Howe has been keen to add to his options in the midfield and the RB Leipzig man was shortlisted by Howe and his recruitment staff during last season.

The Saudi-owned side are also in advanced negotiations to sign Southampton full-back Tino Livramento with a deal close to completion.
Szoboszlai has stated publicly he wants to “make the most of his career and have no regrets” when previously asked about a potential move to this summer.
Eddie Howe has already added Sandro Tonali to his squad for next season and is keen to bring in more quality as the club return to the Champions League.
Szoboszlai made 44 appearances for Leipzig last season, scoring 10 goals and supplying 14 assists to help his side to a third place finish in the Bundesliga. He has been capped 32 times for his country, scoring 7 goals.
