Sources: Rangers ready to strike Ianis Hagi deal as 'concrete' move begins

Lecce are working on a deal to sign Rangers star Ianis Hagi, sources have told Football Insider.

The Ibrox club are open to selling the attacker among multiple first-team stars to help boost the budget for their own transfer business – which has already gotten underway with no fewer than five arrivals.

Hagi, 24, is a concrete target for Lecce, sources say, and is a key figure on their summer shortlist.

It is believed the Italian side have been in contact and are keen to strike a deal with Rangers for the transfer of the Romania international, who is the son of footballing icon Gheorghe.

Hagi made just 11 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring once.

His lack of action came as a result of a devastating cruciate ligament injury, which sidelined the attacking midfielder for around 18 months.

Despite the injury, Hagi penned a fresh contract at Ibrox in December 2022 – pledging his future to the club until June 2026.

He has made a total of 96 appearances for Rangers since joining in 2020, notching 16 goals and 21 assists.

The most memorable spell of his Gers career came in the 2020-21 campaign when he managed eight goals and 15 assists in 45 outings as the Glasgow giants lifted the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers reportedly paid just £3million to bring the 24-cap international to the club from Genk.

The Ibrox club could now part with Hagi three years on as Michael Beale looks to put his own stamp on the side following his appointment late in 2022.

Beale has already overseen the arrivals of Sam Lammers, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland and Abdallah Sima this summer.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (4 July) that Al Ettifaq have made a concrete move for winger Scott Wright following Steven Gerrard’s appointment at the Saudi outfit.
