Medical expert: Tyler Roberts has suffered 'avulsion fracture' after 'weird' Leeds incident
Leeds United star Tyler Roberts has suffered an “avulsion fracture” in an unusual injury incident.
That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Roberts picked up the thigh injury shortly after coming on as a late substitute in Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Leicester City last Saturday (6 March).
New Whites boss Jesse Marsch described the 23-year-old’s setback as “weird”, per Leeds Live later that day (5 March).
The American updated yesterday (9 March) to reveal that Roberts has undergone “successful surgery” and faces “three to four months” out.
Dinnery analysed the details and explained the nature of the Welsh international’s setback.

“Watching the game, it looked as though he over-stretched for a bouncing ball,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“That seems to have been when the injury occurred whereas most hamstring injuries normally occur when you’re sprinting.
“When there is that sudden forcible contraction of the hamstring muscle, that can cause what I understand now to be an avulsion fracture.
“That is when the muscle is separated from the bone.
“Because the injury didn’t fit the usual parameters and mechanism, that is why Marsch referenced it as a weird one. It’s not your typical setback.”
Roberts’ 26 appearances this term have yielded one goal and one assist.
His embattled Leeds side are in action against Aston Villa tonight (10 March).
