Celtic news: Ex-manager hails 'great idea' after update on possible Scott Brown return
Handing Scott Brown a coaching role would be a “great idea” for Celtic following his Aberdeen exit, according to Alex McLeish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager suggested a return to Parkhead makes sense if the 36-year-old is to hang up his boots.
Aberdeen confirmed on Tuesday (8 March) that Brown has left Pittodrie to “take the next steps in his coaching journey”.
The Scottish Sun (8 March) report Celtic would be willing to create a pathway for Brown in a coaching capacity, although he would likely start in an academy role.
Celtic are said to have left the door open to a potential return when he moved to Aberdeen last summer.
McLeish insisted it would be “common sense” for Brown to return to Parkhead if he is ready to retire from playing.

Asked about the possibility of Brown returning to Celtic, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “If he feels the urge to hang up his boots, then it kind of smacks of common sense, Celtic giving him an opening.
“I think his desire is to become a coach and possibly a manager in the future. First, Scott has to retire.
“For Celtic, I’m sure it’s a great idea to bring one of the legends back to the club in a coaching capacity. If they’ve got the space, then why not?”
Brown joined Aberdeen as a player-coach after close friend Stephen Glass was appointed manager.
However, Glass was sacked by the Dons in February after a poor run of form.
