Expert ridicules 'cheap' Tottenham as Pedro Porro negotiations slammed

Tottenham should have completed a deal for Pedro Porro far earlier in the January transfer window.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham announced the singing of Porro in the final moments of the January window after a month-long chase.

Wenham insists the deal should have been done earlier.

“It is incredible to me, once again, that we actually got the signing confirmed 11 minutes before the deadline,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“This was a guy, not only did they know they wanted as their number one target at the beginning of the window, but they also had the benefit of the World Cup period, without matches going on, to prepare to get this signing ready.

“If he is your number one target and he has an active release clause, it is a very straightforward deal to do. We have ended up paying the money anyway.

“We would have had him available for the Man City and Arsenal games if he had come in for the start of the month.

“If he is as good as we are being led to believe, that should have been the priority for the club. Not once again trying to get the cheapest deal which they haven’t done.

“To me, that was poor. But he is a right-wing back and if he is as good as people say then it can be a transformative signing.

“We have had two Championship level wing-backs challenging.

Now we have a full Spain international and someone with Champions League experience who fits the current ID of a typical Conte signing.”
