Pundit suggests 'really embarrassing' development has doomed Everton

Everton will be relegated after failing to back Sean Dyche in the transfer market.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Dyche was announced as the new Everton manager on Monday (30 January) after the club initially held talks with Marcelo Bielsa.

Dyche was appointed with just one full day of the January transfer window to make changes to his squad as they bid to avoid relegation.

However, despite a flurry of late bids for various strikers, the Toffees ended up as the only top-flight side to not make a senior signing during the window.

“Shambles, absolute shambles,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“To have not signed anyone, having sold your best player in Anthony Gordon. To get that £45million then have the time to get deals done, it wasn’t on deadline day, it was a few days before.

“To have not signed anybody is admitting defeat. You are asking Sean Dyche to work utter miracles. Yes he has a few of his old Burnley boys there in Tarkowski, Keane and McNeil but I’m sorry, it’s too much of an ask and Everton will go down.

“They are saying they are going to move into their new stadium. It’s so poor from their owners that they are going to move into their new stadium when in the Championship but they are.

“Southampton, their rivals, have signed two forwards who both rejected Everton. It’s really embarrassing.

“Trying to sign Andre Ayew on a free or whatever they are trying to do out of the window won’t be enough.

“They don’t have Richarlison to keep them up this year, they have no one of that ability.

“Gordon might have been able to do that but they sold him and didn’t sign a replacement, they are asking for trouble and asking for too much of Sean Dyche.

“They will go down.”
