Expert: Tottenham on the verge of stadium naming rights deal after official's 'cryptic' update

Tottenham may be on the verge of announcing a long-awaited stadium naming rights deal after an update from a club official.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Football Insider revealed on 18 October that Tottenham intend to announce a stadium naming rights deal before Christmas with Google and Amazon both in the running to secure a 10-year agreement.

Two sources with knowledge of the talks have told Football Insider that Spurs, who topped Champions League Group D before the World Cup, want a deal in place well in advance of the Champions League knockout rounds.

Spurs’ Chief Commerical Officer Todd Kline tweeted on Wednesday (1 February) that it would be a “big month of announcements” for the stadium.

Wenham claims a long-awaited naming rights deal could be on the horizon.

“It was a bit of cryptic one from old Toddy boy,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He said a month of big announcements, so let’s wait and see. Does that include the deal with the South Africa tourist board?

“The anti-board people will say it’s just more gigs, concerts and monster trucks. Is it going to be the imminent naming rights deal we are all waiting for?

“I do think [it could be the naming rights deal]. For him to put his head above the parapet and say there is going to be a month of big announcements, hopefully something is coming down the line.”

Spurs, whose state-of-the-art 62,850-seater stadium opened in 2019, are likely to fetch up to £25million per year over the course of a 10-year agreement.

That figure, however, is likely to be dependent on performance-related add-ons and the value of any technology tie-in that comes with the deal.
