Tottenham expert fumes amid 'criminal' Djed Spence development
It is “criminal” that Tottenham could not find a Premier League loan for Djed Spence during the January transfer window.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Spence, 22, joined Stade Rennais on deadline day (31 January) after failing to impress Antonio Conte during the first half of the season.
The right-back failed to start a game for Spurs during the first half of the season and was limited to cameo appearances in the Premier League.
Spence has made seven appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this term but those outings only totalled 125 minutes of action.
Wenham insists the club should have sent Spence to another Premier League side.

“I appreciate that the club are briefing that Spence turned down other clubs because he wants game time,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“But, for me, not good enough. It had to be a Premier League loan, It absolutely had to be a Premier League loan.
“Whatever you do in the French league is irrelevant. Spence should be out improving in the top flight of English football.
“He got in the PFA Championship team of the year last season so we know he can do it at that level, it would have been fantastic to see him develop in England.
“It is now being spun that he will get lots of game time and that’s why he has gone there.
“If that’s true then fair enough.
“I just think it’s criminal that we couldn’t find him a Premier League loan.”
