Pundit can't believe Jurgen Klopp could be sacked amid 'massive' Liverpool claim

Noel Whelan has insisted Jurgen Klopp is not in danger of the sack at Liverpool despite a “frustrating” first half of the 2022-23 campaign.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the German, 55, still has a “massive job” at Anfield after “freshening up” the squad last summer.

Liverpool sit a lowly ninth in the Premier League following shock losses against Brentford and Brighton in recent weeks.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has attributed his side’s poor form to their injury list – which includes the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz.

Liverpool face Chelsea on Saturday (21 January) – with the Stamford Bridge side also hampered by injuries to a number of key stars.

Klopp signed a bumper four-year contract extension last year (2022).

When asked if Klopp is in any sack danger, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “No. There’s a real love affair with Klopp, Liverpool, and the fans.

“I can’t see how they get a better manager than him to fit the bill.

“This is just one of those frustrating seasons, but there are still loads of games to play.

“Liverpool have freshened up their team, and it needed to happen. I think they’ve bought really well.

“Gakpo, Carvalho, Nunez – they’re all young players who can improve.

“They’ve been unfortunate with Van Dijk and his injury – especially with how they’ve already looked uneasy at the back.

“I think it’s just been a frustrating start to the season – but I can’t see Klopp going anywhere. He’s still got a massive job.”
