West Brom idol appalled by 'crazy' talks between Premier League and EFL
Kevin Campbell is adamant yo-yo clubs like West Brom should be given “financial assistance” if they drop out of the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Albion and Arsenal striker is appalled to hear parachute payments could be scrapped.
As revealed by the Guardian (29 November), the Premier League and EFL are in ‘secret talks’ over ending parachute payments.
The two bodies are discussing alternatives to the controversial payment system which sees relegated Premier League clubs given financial support over three years.
West Brom are currently one of the benefactors from parachute payments, after dropping out of the top-flight last season.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the potential changes, Campbell said:

“Why would they scrap they parachute payments? It is crazy.
“That is one of the rewards for clubs that have got promotion and rightly so.
“These clubs need to be looked after. There are certain things you need to have in the Premier League that cost you when you come out of the Championship.
“If a team falls through the trap door, they should have financial assistance. I truly believe that should be the case.
“I don’t like this talk of scrapping the payments, I’ll be honest with you. The teams that are relegated deserve a cushion so they don’t hit the floor with a splat.”
In other news, Kevin Campbell has predicted a West Brom big name could quit next year after bust-up with Valerien Ismael bust-up is reported.
