Newcastle told to sell Clark in January after 'dressing room' raging - pundit

Ciaran Clark ended his own Newcastle United career after being sent off against Norwich.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the defender’s “stupid” move.

Clark, 32, was sent off after just nine minutes as Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich on Tuesday (30 November).

He pulled back Teemu Pukki as he broke through on goal, following his own mistake.

McAvennie insists Clark will have had a full dressing down from his “furious” teammates and manager.

“They will be raging,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I would be. Your club is in the middle of a relegation battle and you do that? It’s just stupid.

“I couldn’t believe it. That has to be the end of him. What an impression to make on your new manager.

“That was the whole game plan out of the window from the first few minutes.

“They got a draw when it really should have been, and needed to be, a win.

“That changing room will have been some place to be after the game.

“I can only say what I would have done and I would have given him a right dressing down.

“They must sell him, you can’t have a player who’s doing that hanging around.”

Newcastle remain bottom of the Premier League and winless after 14 games.

They are next in action against Burnley on Saturday afternoon and have already lost to the side in the Carabao Cup this season.
