Dr Dan: Liverpool could be 'hit hard' by ruling body as top executive speaks out
Liverpool could be hit hard if Fifa goes ahead with plans to host the World Cup every two years.
So says finance expert and new Football Insider columnist Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively about the controversial proposal.
Fifa are locked in a bitter dispute with Uefa and Conembol over the potential financial fallout of plans for a biennial World Cup.
The CEO of beIN, one of the world’s most powerful media groups, has now raised concerns over sponsorship and the value of future broadcast deals.
As quoted by the Daily Mail on Tuesday (30 November), Yousef Al-Obaidly warned: “You can have too much of a good thing.”
Plumley explained how a revamp of the global footballing calendar could affect Liverpool’s balance sheet.

“There could be a drop in the value of the product,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“If you start playing around with fixture schedules, broadcasters are not happy because it’s not what they paid for.
“If you have to put a break in the domestic season too, there is another conversation to be had about the price of the contract.
“In terms of players, you would probably have to put a break in the schedule or reduce the number of teams in the league to accommodate the competition.
“The other way to do it is the domestic league carries on while international competitions are on. That will definitely impact the product.
“It’s like with the Africa Cup of Nations coming up where Liverpool are going to be without their best players.
“Broadcasters are playing for the star player attraction as much as anything.
“Fifa’s revenue is solely driven by the World Cup, so they are better off if they are more regular.
“It’s a power play because it’s a big hit to Uefa’s core products, namely the Champions League, and the domestic leagues.”
Liverpool could lose Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for up to a month during the Cup of Nations in January.
