Tottenham hit by 'even more bad news' as details of 'huge' Romero 'blow' emerge - pundit
Tottenham have suffered a “huge blow” after losing Cristian Romero for up to three months.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvenie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Conte revealed the extent of the defender’s injury.
On Wednesday (1 December) journalist Jonathan Veal quoted Conte as saying Romero, 23, may not play again until February.
The defender suffered a hamstring injury in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil on 16 November.
However, Spurs had been unable to confirm the severity of the injury until 1 December as they continued to investigate how bad the knock was.
McAvennie insists Tottenham fans can expect repeats poor defensive performances, such as 25 November’s loss to Mura, while Romero is sidelined.

“Is that how long he’s out? Oh my god,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“The boy has been a solid signing and for me, has made that defence considerably better.
“Spurs struggled in Europe and obviously he didn’t play in that game.
“If Romero is going to miss those games, I think we will see more results like that.
“The defence isn’t good, I’ve been saying this for ages. Romero came in and it got better.
“It’s even more bad news for them. Now they are back to that old rubbish defence. I think that’s a huge blow.”
Romero has made 13 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club from Atalanta.
His loan move will be made permanent next summer with Spurs facing an obligation to buy.
