Celtic Exclusive: McAvennie reacts as 'Lennon's go-to-man' agrees terms with new club
Frank McAvennie expects Jonny Hayes to get a “great reception” when he returns to Celtic Park next season after the midfielder returned to Aberdeen.
The Hoops and Saint Mirren legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, called the 32-year-old Neil Lennon’s “go-to man” given his versatility last season.
Aberdeen confirmed that they had resigned the Irish midfielder after he was released from Parkhead at the end of May.
Hayes returns to club he left for the Bhoys three years ago and put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
McAvennie believes a return to Pittodrie was the best move for the player.
“Jonny is comfortable up there and the fans love him,” he told Football Insider.

“I think he has a great fit for Aberdeen.
“He was Neil Lennon’s go-to man – whether it was left-back, centre-midfield, left-midfield and he never let him down.
“He will go to Aberdeen and they will play him in his best position and he will play a whole season which is great.
“He is a good lad and a whole-hearted player.
“I think he will get a very good reception when he returns to Celtic Park next season and the fans are good that way. He has not left anyone with a bad taste in their mouth. It will be a great reception and he deserves it.”
Hayes told Aberdeen’s website: “It is exciting to be an Aberdeen player again.
“Cormack Park was a major attraction in returning and as soon as the manager phoned and said Aberdeen were interested it was always my preferred choice.”
