McAvennie makes surprise Rangers claim - 'this is where the money is'
Rangers have been told to forget about the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish League Cup to focus solely on a run in the Europa League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie made the outrageous claim as he explained that a good run in Europe is worth more to the Gers than any domestic competition.
Michael Beale’s side kick off their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 win over Real Betis at Ibrox on Thursday (21 September).
They host Motherwell in the next round of the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (24 September) before their midweek League Cup quarter-final against Livingston and then a visit from Aberdeen.
Holders Celtic have already been eliminated from the competition, piling the pressure on the Light Blues to secure some silverware.
Their next European clash is a trip to face Aris Limassol on 5 October followed by another away game against Sparta Prague.

When asked if Beale will have the domestic competitions in his mind when selecting his teams in Europe, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Rangers have got to go for Europe, that is where the money is for them.
“Getting a run in the Europa League they will get money. If you get a run in the Scottish League or League Cup it is coppers compared to what you get in the Europa League.
“They are playing well but they have got to take it one game at a time. Is Beale under pressure? Of course he is.“
