Kieran Trippier cited as Newcastle United set for January exodus - pundit
Newcastle United are set for a big exodus of players in the upcoming transfer windows.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said that any players who do not step up between now and January are at risk of being thrown out.
Despite their takeover in 2021 by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the Magpies have not seen a massive increase in spending that a lot of onlookers had been expecting.
Instead of big names, boss Eddie Howe chose to add proven quality to his side and helped current players reach new levels.
But McAvennie insisted it is just a matter of time before the superstars arrive on Tyneside.
“The players are going to have to step up because next year they are going to go up another level,” he told Football Insider.

“They are going to be bringing in players that are better than the ones already there so they need to step up if they want to keep their place.
“There is going to be quality players coming in to Newcastle whether in January or the summer so you have got to fight in every game and prove that you want to be a part of that.
“What a player [Kieran] Trippier is so they are not going to go out and buy another right-back at the moment.
“Some of the midfielders have to work harder to keep their place because you will not be there if Eddie Howe does not think you are good enough.“
