Celtic board let down Brendan Rodgers amid £40m+ reveal - expert
Brendan Rodgers was massively let down by the Celtic board this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie insisted Rodgers’ demands weren’t met this summer despite the club’s record revenues.
Rodgers rejoined the club in July following Ange Postecoglou’s departure to join Tottenham and since then the club have signed Maik Nawrocki, Luis Palma, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Odin Thiago Holm, Hyunjun Yang, Marco Tilio and Hyeokkyu Kwon on permanent deals.
Nat Phillips and Paolo Bernardo have also joined on loan for the duration of the season.
Earlier this month (18 September), the club confirmed a profit a pre-tax profit of over £40million for the year ending June 2023, compared with last year’s figure of just over £6m.
McAvennie couldn’t understand why the profits weren’t translated into summer spending.

“What is the point in having it in the bank,” he told Football Insider.
“I do not mean spend everything but I am sure Brendan has asked for players and he has not got them.
“These are not the kind of players he would bring in. Brendan would want to bring in players that are ready for the first team, not for the future.
“There are a lot of projects in that Celtic team at the moment. That is not a bad thing, that is Celtic’s model, but I just think they need a bit of experience. They need someone who is ready to walk straight into the first team.“
