Liverpool news: Pundit can't believe what he's hearing as Luis Diaz controversy takes another twist
The audio for Luis Diaz’s disallowed Liverpool goal is a damning indictment on VAR officials in England – and their pals act is embarrassingly amateurish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie couldn’t believe the incompetence and lack of communication from the officials in the VAR room for Tottenham against the Reds.
Diaz had a goal mistakenly disallowed for offside in the game against Spurs last weekend, VAR failed to overturn the decision believing the onfield officials had opted to award the goal.
The PGMOL acknowledged the mistake after the goal and have since released the audio from the VAR room demonstrating the failure on the part of the officials.
Having listened to the tape, McAvennie couldn’t believe that Darren England and Dan Cook did such a poor job.
“I’m amazed, it is a business, it is a job, they should not be talking like they are pals, it’s embarrassing, I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” he told Football Insider.

“There was no communication to say offside, it was not offside. Why the linesman put his flag up in the first place is beyond me, he was miles onside.
“The bottom line is people have checked it and still got the decision wrong because of their poor communication.
“Saying that once you start the game you can’t go back is a lot of nonsense. If it was me I would have told them to stop the game because they must have known it was going to come back to bite them.
“You must know you have made an absolute mess so stop the game. Everyone would have been happier if they had sorted it. The point of VAR is getting the right decision so it doesn’t make any sense to me.“
