Ross Wilson wants to make Hibernian recruitment number two Graeme Mathie his first hire at Rangers, Football Insider understands.

The new Light Blues director of football is keen to build his own team of trusted and proven experts as he looks to make a mark at the Glasgow giants.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Mathie, 36, is on the radar of Wilson and he is eager to try and lure him from his new employers’ Scottish Premiership rivals.

Mathie is the head of player identification and recruitment at Hibernian and has a growing reputation in his field.

He is regarded as a specialist in data analysis and has also put together a number of presentations for incoming transfers at Hibs.

It remains to be seen whether Wilson can tempt Mathie to move to Glasgow after he made his own switch from Southampton yesterday back to his native Scotland.

Mathie is regarded as the natural successor at Hibs to current football chief George Craig, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Mathie has been at Easter Road for five years and was previously a scout at Celtic after retiring from playing in his mid-20s.

The former Motherwell, Bournemouth and Coventry City player has worked alongside several Hibs managers like Alan Stubbs, Neil Lennon and now Paul Heckingbottom.
