Sources: Celtic set sights on £3m-plus January deal

Celtic will reignite their interest in Motherwell sensation David Turnbull in January if he is fully recovered from injury, Football Insider understands.

The attacking midfielder was just hours from signing for the Hoops in the summer before a medical revealed he needed knee surgery and a £3million-plus move collapsed at the last minute.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club have not given up hope of eventually signing Turnbull, 20, and he is on their radar ahead of the January window.

The Scottish champions are set to bid their time and will wait to see if the SPL rising star is fully recovered from injury.

They would be willing to pay the same fee they had agreed in the summer window, which totalled £3.25million.

Motherwell chiefs have suggested that Turnbull could be ready to return in the new year after he suffered transfer heartbreak in the summer.

The Scotland Under-21 international had spurned a move to Norwich City to agree terms with Celtic and he even went so far as to be pictured with Neil Lennon and conduct an interview with the club’s official media channels.

Turnbull is regarded as one of the outstanding young players north of the border.

He made a huge impact at ‘Well last season, scoring 16 goals and supplying seven assists from 34 matches and ending with a blaze of goals and dazzling performances.
