Sources: Alex Gorrin signs short-term Oxford United deal

Alex Rodriguez Gorrin is re-signing for Oxford United on a contract running until the end of January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spanish midfielder, 30, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury last season before his contract with the U’s expired in June.

He was nonetheless invited to continue his rehab with Oxford during pre-season.

Gorrin is now close to full fitness and is set to make his return to action at the Kassam Stadium.

He had attracted interest from a number of League One and League Two clubs, but he has decided to take up a short-term deal with high-flying Oxford.

The Spaniard suffered the serious injury in training last December.

Gorrin had played 13 games in all competitions before then, notching one goal against Swansea in the League Cup.

The midfielder also missed a large part of the 2021-22 campaign after suffering a similar injury against Bristol Rovers in November 2021.

He has been affiliated with Oxford since joining on a free transfer from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in 2019.

Gorrin has racked up 114 appearances across all competitions for the U’s, notching three goals and three assists.

The 30-year-old has also plied his trade at Sunderland, Wellington Phoenix, Boavista and Sepsi OSK.

He primarily plays in a defensive midfield berth but can also play in more advanced roles.

Oxford, who are managed by ex-MK Dons boss Liam Manning, sit second in League One and have built a five-point buffer to third-placed Barnsley.

The U’s are next in action against Blackpool on Saturday (21 October).
