Kieran Maguire reveals 'performance-related bonuses' as new Chelsea deal close to being agreed

Chelsea will have Champions League ‘bonuses’ included in their front-of-shirt deal with Infinite Athlete.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about contract clauses in Chelsea’s imminent sponsorship deal.

As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea are growing in confidence that their front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with Infinite Athlete will be approved by the Premier League at a rate of £40million per season.

The Blues are waiting for the Premier League’s fair market value assessment to approve the deal before announcing them as the replacement for Three.

The agreement was initially expected to be worth £50million per season but the value has dropped to £40million to adhere to fair market value.

However, Maguire expects the contract between both parties to include performance-related clauses including Champions League bonuses.

Any contract with a new sponsor will have performance-related bonuses,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

That will include Champions League participation, and from 2024/25 season onwards it is highly likely that the Premier League will have five teams in the Champions League.

“Because of their success in Europe in recent years, they are likely to pick up one of the wildcard spots.

The two Manchester teams, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also expected to perform well this season.

So sponsors want their names in front of as many eyeballs as possible and the Champions League is therefore very seductive.

Therefore I expect Chelsea’s new sponsors to pay extra if they qualify for that competition.
