Kieran Maguire drops Rangers prediction after source's £75m reveal

Rangers will suffer a drop in revenue for 2022/23 despite earning around £14million from Champions League qualification.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the projected turnover at Ibrox.

In the latest 2021/22 accounts, Rangers posted a record turnover of £86.8million after the club’s successful run to the Europa League final.

It is estimated that the club earned £30.5million in payments from Uefa for that Europa League run.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (15 September) that Rangers are set to announce a turnover of just over £75million for 2022/23 after earning around £25million from their Champions League campaign.

Maguire also believes Rangers are set for a slight decrease in turnover despite Champions League qualification being worth triple the entry fee for the Europa League.

“I think if we take a look overall, revenues will be fairly similar to 2021/22,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“Rangers did sell unique packages for their three enticing home games in the Champions League, which provoked a mixed reaction from fans.

“It did mean, however, that their matchday income in the competition was significant and they also got the £14million qualification fee for being in the Champions League.

“Clearly they didn’t pick up any bonus payments as they had a poor record in the group stage.

“So I think they may be slightly down on their last accounts when they enjoyed a lengthy run in the Europa League.

“But the Champions League is worth three times more than the Europa League in their qualification fees so that will help.“
