Kieran Maguire: Man City well placed to land '£200m+' jackpot soon
Man City would earn over £200million if they win the Champions League in 2024/25.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that prize money in the European competition could increase by as much as 50 percent.
The Champions League is set for a radical format change from 2024/25 onwards, with the Uefa tournament adopting the ‘Swiss format’ which will see 36 teams compete in a league setup before entering the knockout stages.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the Champions League for the first time in City’s history last season, with The Times claiming that the Manchester club earned £120million en route to lifting the trophy.
Uefa’s changes to their coefficient rules also mean that City’s success in Europe over the past five years will see them ranked top of the coefficient table in 2024/25 – earning the club even more money.
Maguire explained that sponsor bonuses and additional matchday income on top of Uefa prize money will make the Champions League trophy worth over £200million to the club that wins it in 2024/25.

“It has never been more important to qualify for the Champions League than it is this season,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Man City made around about £120million for winning the competition in 2022/23.
“But that is set to increase by about 50 per cent next season, and that is before adding in sponsor bonuses and matchday income.
“So winning the Champions League could well be worth over £200million after the format changes being introduced next season.“
