Kieran Maguire suspects Leeds United dressing room 'dissent' after legal threats
There will be ‘dissent’ and ‘unhappiness’ in the Leeds United dressing room after players threatened legal action against the club.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the problems Leeds faced this summer because of relegation clauses.
The Yorkshire side saw a majority of their first-team squad leave the club this summer after being relegated to the Championship.
Leeds included clauses in many players’ contracts that allowed them to leave via loan if the club was demoted.
As reported by The Athletic, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra threatened legal action against the club because the relegation clauses in their contracts weren’t honoured.
Maguire believes the new board at Leeds are trying to correct the ‘legacy issues’ left at Elland Road by the ‘overconfident’ previous ownership.

“I think the strategy in the Premier League was very much one of decide-in-haste, repent-in-leisure,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“The senior hierarchy at the club were perhaps overconfident with regards to their continued ability to remain in the Premier League.
“And that came back to bite them, though those people are not necessarily involved with the club anymore.
“So the new board inherited legacy issues and they’re trying to extricate themselves from that as best they can.
“But if this is leading to dissent and unhappiness in the dressing room, that’s not good for the overall level of morale.
“And that could be why Leeds’ start to the season has been more modest than many commentators would have thought.“
