Kieran Maguire issues 'staggering' Celtic verdict after £100m+ reveal

The financial results of Celtic are ‘staggering’ after they posted revenues of £120million for the 2022/23 season.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who praised the role of Peter Lawwell in making Celtic financially dominant in Scotland.

The Glasgow giants posted their 2022/23 financial accounts on Monday (18 September) revealing revenue of £119.9million for their treble-winning season.

That figure marks a 35 per cent increase on their 2022 results when revenue at Celtic Park was £88.2million, while the club also recorded profits of £40.7million before tax.

Maguire praised the results as ‘spectacular’ and believes the club’s cost controls have helped them to grow profits.

“Celtic’s financial results are staggering,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They generated more revenue than the whole of the SPFL combined if you exclude Rangers – that’s how dominant they’ve become.

“The fact that they’ve also got good cost control is reflected in the level of profit.

I think that shows that under Peter Lawwell in particular, they’re a very prudently run club.

They don’t spend large sums, certainly by Premier League standards.

We don’t know what the wage bill was for last season because that has not yet been disclosed, but clearly it must be under significant control.

So they are spectacular results and if you read the press release and the chairman’s statement they are aiming for Champions League football each year.

But they’ve got enough cash in the bank to ensure that if that isn’t achieved, then they don’t have to go and change strategy rapidly.
