Kieran Maguire drops £34m Rangers reveal after big Celtic development
It is going to be ‘very tough’ for Rangers to catch up with Celtic’s financial dominance in Scotland.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Rangers’ finances compared to their Glasgow rivals.
Gers posted record turnover of £86.8million in 2021/22, but the Glasgow giants still trail significantly behind their arch-rivals financially with Celtic revealing revenues of £119.9million in 2022/23.
Celtic’s £34million advantage financially has translated to on-pitch success, with the Parkhead side achieving the treble last season.
Maguire, who hailed Celtic’s financial results as “staggering” when first learning of them, insists that Rangers will have to be ‘smart and savvy’ with their spending in future transfer windows if they intend to close the financial gap to their Glasgow rivals.
“I think Rangers did very well to almost match Celtic’s revenue in 2021/22 and that was partly due to their success in reaching the final of the Europa League,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“It is going to be very tough for them to close the gap to Celtic.
“Celtic have got a bigger stadium, more hospitality sectors and more lucrative commercial deals because they’ve been in the Champions League more regularly than Rangers.
“So Rangers will have to be smart and savvy.
“They’ll have to spend smarter rather than spend bigger than Celtic because they themselves want to be sustainable.
“So it’s it’s gonna be tough and we have to wait to see how things develop.
“However, it is tough but not impossible.”
