Kieran Maguire: Richard Arnold 'covering' for the Glazers as new Man United takeover meeting revealed

Richard Arnold’s comments about the Man United takeover saga show he is ‘covering’ for the Glazer family.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the ‘poor’ decision-making of the Red Devils board.

As reported by The Athletic, Man United CEO Arnold faced questions during an all-staff meeting this week about the club’s takeover.

Arnold told staff to “hang tight and be resilient” after facing criticism over the club’s growing level of debt under the Glazer family.

The Daily Mail reported in June that the club’s gross debt stands at £725million – a figure the Glazers want new owners to pay off if they agree to sell the club.

Maguire believes Arnold’s latest comments lack credibility and prove that he is covering for the Glazers’ stubbornness during the takeover saga.

“There appears to be a lack of strategy and poor decision-making at the club,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

You’ve only got to look at the way that they’ve handled issues in relation to individual players to see that.

The potential takeover has also dragged on.

“I think Richard Arnold’s comments that this is a ‘big deal that takes a lot of time’ doesn’t really have credibility because it’s not a big deal by the standards of the city, and deals can go through very, very quickly.

“This is one party – the Glazer family – being very stubborn with regard to their price.

I think Arnold is the one covering their misdeeds.
