Sources: Paqueta move from West Ham to Man City collapses after 'deal agreed'

Lucas Paqueta’s potential move from West Ham to Man City is now completely off, sources have told Football Insider.

The London club had agreed an £80million deal in principle with City for the transfer of the Brazilian playmaker.

But the transfer was put on hold last week as it emerged that Paqueta is the subject of a betting breaches investigation by FIFA and the FA.

There have been suggestions that the deal could be resurrected in the final week of the transfer window and, most likely, in January.

It is believed that the current deal in place has totally collapsed and a completely new package would need to be agreed were the move to now be planned for a later date.

Paqueta will not be moving to Etihad Stadium in the current window.

City have now swooped for Jeremy Doku of Stade Rennais, with a full agreement for his signature believed to be imminent.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (22 August) that the treble-winners have agreed a fee for the Belgium international – who has personally spoken to Pep Guardiola about his imminent move to the Etihad Stadium.

Paqueta was targeted by City following his successful first season in England with West Ham – during which he won the Europa Conference League.

He made 41 appearances for the Irons in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring five goals and assisting seven.

The Brazil international, who played for his country at last year’s World Cup in Qatar, opened his account for the new season with an injury-time penalty in the win over Chelsea on Sunday (20 August).

Dani Olmo has been widely linked with City as a potential Paqueta alternative.

However, as revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (22 August), Guardiola’s side are likely to find a deal too hard to do – with Leipzig already selling a host of their stars for big money this summer.

In other news, Man City turn attention to signing the “next Martin Odegaard”.
