'Rangers is a cesspit' - Pep Guardiola cited as Ibrox manager shortlist revealed, says pundit
Rangers is a “cesspit” and no top manager wants to work there.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that even Pep Guardiola “couldn’t get a tune” out of the new signings former manager Michael Beale brought in.
Beale was sacked by the Gers following a disappointing start to the season after spending big sums in the summer window on players who have struggled to hit the ground running in Glasgow..
Football Insider understands this evening that Frank Lampard has held preliminary talks with Rangers and Kevin Muscat is also a leading target.
Lampard is believed to be “very keen” to succeed Michael Beale and right the wrongs of what has been a turbulent start to his managerial career.
“Why would he want to go the cesspit that is Rangers at this moment in time,” he told Football Insider.

“They are all over the place, I do not understand why a manager would want to walk in to that.
“I understand why someone would want to manage there but at this moment in time they have got no money, Beale has got rid of his decent players and has brought in some not-so decent players.
“I do not even think Pep Guardiola could get a tune out of these boys. I do not know if a top manager would want to take it.“
