Revealed: Tottenham £40m Gallagher bid submitted in late drama
Tottenham had a £40million deadline-day offer for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher rejected, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs trailed the England international, 23, all summer and held extensive talks with their London rivals over a potential deal.
But a deal could not be agreed for Gallagher, who is valued at £45m by Chelsea
Despite the influx of talent at Chelsea this summer, Mauricio Pochettino has started the academy graduate in all four of the club’s Premier League fixtures so far this season.
He was paired with Moises Caicedo in central midfield in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, with Enzo Fernandez pushed forward into a more advanced role.
The summer captures of Caicedo and Romeo Lavia appeared to spell the end for Gallagher at the club where he emerged from the youth ranks to establish himself in the first team.

There was strong interest all summer from multiple Premier League clubs, with Tottenham and West Ham pushing the hardest.
It came as Spurs tried to offload a number of their senior midfielders including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele, who both ended up staying beyond the 1st September deadline.
Tottenham had been keen to move Hojbjerg on before the Friday night deadline but rejected loan offers for the player as well as a £25m bid from Fulham they felt was £5m short of the Dane’s valuation.
At Chelsea, Gallagher featured heavily in pre-season and has played 407 minutes of competitive football already this term with new signing Lavia not yet ready to feature.
Gallagher made 45 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea in the 2022-23 season, which included 17 Premier League starts and two Champions League starts.
