Revealed: Monchi revolution continues at Aston Villa as Thelwell deal agreed
Aston Villa scout Robbie Thelwell has joined Norwich City as their new head of technical scouting, sources have told Football Insider.
The talent-spotter confirmed on LinkedIn that he has agreed terms with the Canaries over the role at Carrow Road.
Thelwell’s exit comes as new Aston Villa president of football operations Monchi continues his overhaul of the recruitment set-up after joining in the summer.
The Spaniard has been given the power by Villa’s mega-rich owners to build his own team as they look to establish themselves in the European elite.
Thelwell only moved into a first-team scout role at Villa Park in July, after previously being employed as a video scout for the Midlands giants.
He also previously spent almost six years at Wolves as a first-team scout and now replaces Josh Appleyard at Norwich – who moved to Newcastle United earlier this year.

Monchi’s revolution at Aston Villa comes after he worked closely with Unai Emery at Spanish side Sevilla during a purple patch in their recent history.
Villa made five signings during the summer window.
Emery’s side signed Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres, Youri Tielemans, Nicolo Zaniolo and Clement Lenglet to bolster their first-team squad.
The Spaniard’s arrival last November also saw Jhon Duran and Alex Moreno arrive in the January window earlier this year.
Emery, who is under contract at Villa Park until June 2027, led Villa to a seventh-place finish and Europa Conference League qualification last term.
The Midlands giants have picked up nine points from a possible 15 to start the 2023-24 campaign.
