Sources: Newcastle United 'desperate' to rip up £30m deal

Newcastle United are “desperate” to replace their deal with kit supplier Castore, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies are locked into a deal with the UK-based company until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The deal is reportedly worth £5million per season, taking the total value of the deal to £30million.

Football Insider revealed in February that there were private regrets at St James’ Park that the club is locked into a long-term deal with Castore.

The deal was struck during Mike Ashley’s time in charge of the club, but the new Saudi Arabian owners at Newcastle believe the Magpies have since outgrown the deal.

Since the £300million takeover in 2021, Newcastle’s new owners have focused on improving the commercial income of the club.

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle’s hierarchy are ‘desperate’ to increase the value of their kit deal by replacing Castore.

Newcastle posted commercial revenue of £26.5million in 2021/22 – a 52 per cent increase on the £17.6million from the season prior.

Since then, Newcastle have also signed lucrative shirt sponsorship deals with Noon and Sela, which are set to boost that figure further.

The value of Newcastle’s current Castore deal pales in comparison to the deals of the ‘Big Six’, with Manchester United earning £75million per season from their Adidas deal and Manchester City following closely behind with their £65million per season Puma agreement.

The hierarchy at St James’ Park are hopeful that Newcastle’s emergence as top four contenders can help negotiations to increase the value of their next kit deal.
