Revealed: Birmingham City set for £16m windfall as documents filed

New Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner has injected £16million into the club in the form of a new share issue, Football Insider has learned.

The Blues’ takeover was confirmed on Thursday (13 July), with Wagner’s Shelby Companies Limited now in control of 45.98 per cent of Birmingham City Limited.

The US-based company also has full ownership of St Andrew’s Stadium.

A Companies House submission filed by Birmingham City Stadium Ltd revealed that 16.1million new shares have been issued at £1 each.

Companies House submissions also confirmed the appointment of Wagner as the new director of the company.

Wagner has openly expressed his desire to renovate and improve the club’s 29,400-capacity stadium.

In an open letter to fans, the new club owner reassured fans that investing in infrastructure remains part of their long-term plans.

“We plan to work in partnership with the City Council to explore all options available to us to transform our physical infrastructure. Regardless of what the future holds, St. Andrew’s will remain part of our community, and our history,” said Wagner.

Repair work has been ongoing at St Andrew’s throughout the summer after the stadium was forced to run at a reduced capacity due to asbestos damage.

The Birmingham Mail estimate that the Blues lost as much as £1million in gate receipts because of the repair work at the stadium.

However, infrastructure investment seems to be a priority under Wagner’s tenure, with reports that talks have even been held about potentially building a new stadium for the club nearby.
