Revealed: Leeds United now have extra £76m after latest exit agreed

Leeds United have reduced their wage bill by £76million following their relegation to the Championship, Football Insider can reveal.

The Yorkshire club’s three-year stay in the Premier League came to an end last season, with Sam Allardyce unable to keep the club clear of the drop after joining the club in the final weeks of the campaign.

Now back in the Championship, the Whites have appointed Daniel Farke as manager and cleared out a large portion of their playing squad.

Ten first-team players have left Elland Road in the summer transfer window, including five stars leaving on loan as part of relegation clauses.

Player departures combined with drops in wages due to contract clauses has meant that Leeds’ wage bill has plummeted £76million since their latest financial accounts.

Leeds announced in their 2021/22 accounts that their wage bill was £121million following the arrivals of Daniel James, Junior Firpo and Jack Harrison.

As per Capology’s findings, Leeds’ wage bill for the 2023/24 Championship season now sits at £45million.

That figure ranks Leeds third in the Championship in terms of wage bill, with only fellow relegated sides Southampton and Leicester paying players more.

However, Leeds’ wage bill is still expected to rise further with the Yorkshire club still in the market for new signings this summer.

Max Aarons, Joel Piroe, Joe Rodon and Gustavo Hamer have all been linked with a move to Leeds this summer, and their arrivals could inflate the wage bill above £45million.
