Man United urged to make midfield signing after 'concerning' Casemiro development - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Man United to add further midfield cover after Casemiro’s “concerning” start to the 2023-24 campaign.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old looks like he “can’t get around” and “lacks mobility”.

Casemiro has played 90 minutes in both of Man United’s Premier League fixtures so far this season.

As per FBRef‘s stats for the recent 2-0 loss against Tottenham (19 August), the midfielder won just one of his three attempted tackles and had a pass completion of just 80.6%.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher claimed (21 August) that Casemiro “couldn’t cope” with Spurs and “looks exposed” in the Man United midfield.

The reported £70million signing has three years left to run on his Old Trafford contract.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it’s concerning.

“Casemiro has been outstanding during his career, he’s been one of the best in his position.

“But he’s 31 with three years left on his contract.

“I’ve been there – your legs can let you down overnight.

“When you watch him now, that looks the case. He can’t get around, he lacks mobility.

“I feel Man United need a younger, fresher option to rotate him with. There are Premier League, domestic cup and Champions League games.

“Man United need backup in that position.

“I’m sure United fans would agree. Casemiro is a good player, but he can’t play every game this season. Who do they bring in?

“Arsenal have got Partey and Rice. Man City have got Rodri, Stones and Phillips. Chelsea have got Enzo, Lavia and Caicedo.

“I do think they need one more in that area.”
