West Ham tipped to hand Jesse Lingard '£30,000-a-week' deal after club insider's reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Jesse Lingard could now return to West Ham – but won’t be earning “anywhere near” the money he turned down last summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old could now get a wage of around “£30,000-a-week” with appearance-based bonuses.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast (22 August), club insider ExWHUEmployee claimed the signing of Lingard is now looking “more likely” after his spell training at Rush Green.

The reliable source claimed the attacking midfielder could now sign a short-term deal at the London Stadium after looking “very good fitness-wise” on the training pitch.

Lingard previously had a loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 2020-21 season, notching nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances.

The Irons moved to bring the ex-Man United star back to the club last season but saw their approach rejected by the England international.

He joined Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal last summer (2022) but managed just two goals and two assists in 20 appearances for the Midlands side.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He did turn down West Ham to join Forest last season.

“But you know what, they might like him as a player.

“He might have been offered £100,000-a-week last season, but now he’s going to get around £30,000-a-week with bonuses of around £10-15,000 for appearances.

“It doesn’t look like he’s got a lot of options and he still doesn’t have a club, and that plays into West Ham’s hands.

“West Ham won’t hold what happened against him, but they won’t be giving him the same offer as last summer.

“He won’t be getting anywhere near the money he turned down last year.”
