Agbonlahor can't believe Nayef Aguerd could quit West Ham for Saudi club in out-of-window deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged West Ham not to sell centre-back Nayef Aguerd “under any circumstances” amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested manager David Moyes should put his foot down and not allow the 27-year-old to be sold.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 September) that Al-Ittihad are planning a shock late move for West Ham defender Aguerd before the close of the transfer window in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday (7 September).

The Morocco international, who impressed at the World Cup in Qatar, only joined the Irons from Rennes last summer in a £30million deal.

The 27-year-old, who was instrumental in West Ham’s Europa Conference League win last season, has already made three appearances this season – but missed the 3-1 win over Brighton last month through suspension.

Aguerd is under contract at the London Stadium until June 2027.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think they should let him go under any circumstances.

“He’s looking so assured next to Kurt Zouma at the moment – and the defence looks strong.

“If I’m David Moyes then I’m pleading with the board not to let him go. This squad is exactly what he needs.

“They’ve got a long season in the Europa League ahead of him, and it will be tough. They will face some tough tests in that competition.

“But I can’t see the board going against the manager and letting him go. I can’t see him going if Moyes doesn’t want him to.”
